It’s A Good Time To Check Your Hurricane Shutters

There are no disturbances in the Atlantic Basin that look like they could develop into a tropical cyclone for the next few days, so I’m going to check my hurricane shutters this weekend.  I need to make sure that I can find all the parts that haven’t been used in over a year.  I have mostly accordion shutters, so I’ll clean the shutter tracks of leaves and debris and then close each shutter up to make sure they slide ok.  I’ll spray a little lithium grease on the rollers if needed.

During a hurricane event, I don’t want to find out and I don’t want my wife to find out that something is not working properly at the last minute.  This is something I try to do near the beginning of each hurricane season.  Hopefully, I won’t have to check on the shutters again for another year.
